The Rhinecliff was originally built in 1854 by architect George Veitch-

....and first earned its keep serving the bustling Rhinecliff-Kingston Ferry Terminal and the newly opened Hudson River Railroad.—

Nestled on the banks of the Hudson River in the picturesque Landmark Historic Hamlet of Rhinecliff, the hotel was originally a simple rooming house for travelers to the area offering sustenance and rest for both man and horse. The hotel, now listed in the National Register of Historic Places, had been in constant operation since those days until in 2003, after a period of some notoriety as a raucous music watering hole, the hotel closed its doors and became quiet.

Having fallen in love with the old hotel after enjoying occasional beers at the dilapidated bar in its dying days, British-born brothers James and David Chapman decided to take on the challenge to restore the hotel to its former glory. James gave up his dynamic New York City restaurant career and having opened ten restaurants across six countries in three continents, felt he was ready. David, having managed financial consulting teams across complex Wall Street and City of London Capital Markets trading environments, felt he had the logistical skills to deal with this little country hotel renovation. The revival project took five years to complete !

The hotel has finally emerged with new life as a boutique country, full-service hotel. The building features beautiful antique wood floors, historic beams, re-finished doors, stone fireplaces hand-stacked by an English craftsman and the original Victorian oak bar, all painstakingly cleaned and restored to their original pristine condition. The guest bedrooms have been fitted out with the latest in luxury amenities and all feature private balconies overlooking the mighty Hudson, king-sized beds, flat screen TVs, hi-fi music systems, double whirlpool air-massage tubs and state-of-the-art heating, air-conditioning and communications systems.

"The Bar" at the Rhinecliff, on the ground floor is an all-day brasserie-style operation featuring the bounty of the Hudson Valley’s produce cooked and served seasonally, with classic European elegance and Hudson Valley gusto. The bar and restaurant look out onto the river and feature a generous bluestone patio, ideal for summer al fresco dining.

The first floor Riverview Banquet Room, aided by the spacious hotel lawn offers varied banqueting options to suit all kinds of special occasions, celebrations and corporate events. Long cherished by the good folk of Rhinecliff and Rhinebeck, THE RHINECLIFF re-captures its place at the heart of the community with its warm welcome, good cheer and gracious elegance. We like to think Mr. George Veitch would be pleased with what he sees.
